Dev Diary 0 - Broad Strokes
Hello there.
Note: This is the first of hopefully many development diaries I will post here. If you have interest in this game, or game design at all, I hope these will be informative or at the very least, interesting. At this time, most of these diaries will be me recalling my thought process as I am writing these after the alpha release of the game.
~
Two mostly-abandoned alpha games deep, and I had an idea I couldn't wait to try. I really liked the game "Adventure Capitalist" which I played on mobile, many many years ago. I enjoy clickers and idle games, and that was a bit of both. What I didn't like about it, was the endless increasing of money. (ie. 1 million, 1 billion, 1 trillion, 1 quadrilion, ..., ..., ..., 1 aj, 1ak, 1al, ..., ..., ..., 1 ds, 1 dt, 1 du, etc.)
I also thought there was a great opportunity to increase the number of business types in the game instead of just the 10 in the base game.
My original intent was to make a clone of the mechanics of Adventure Capitalist, and then add resources to make it more complicated. That wasn't quite enough for me because my favorite games to play are games like Anno 1800, Satisfactory, Dyson Sphere Program, Cities Skylines. (More recently Farming Simulator 25) I like the production chain aspect, but not so much the connecting of conveyor belts.
Okay, so we have resources, what do we do with them?
Do I require the player to feed the needs of citizens?
No, that's not the kind of game I want to make.
Well, we can chain with ourselves, and sell the goods, and use that to make more stuff.
Sure, but I sort of want to make the game regarding global supply. What reason is there to trade with myself, if I am only going to sell it anyway?
Well... each country can have it's own economy.
Okay sounds good. We're talking mining, and factories?
And farming, and food production...
so.... everything...
This first Dev Diary is just my rambling, sorry about that. But in the future they will be more focused.

Cool read! The game also reminds me of (the game) capitalism / capitalism plus and capitalism 2. Both are on GOG
Oh, wow! Those look super cool, and something I would play.
My brain can only handle "gaming" or "game dev". If I start playing a game like that, it could mean weeks away from gamedev.
I do take breaks whenever Supermarket Simulator on Steam updates, and whenever a new Ark: SA map releases.
